Warder’s Cottage

Restored Historic Freo Cottage

Warder’s Cottage, built in 1858, is one of Fremantle’s oldest and most iconic of buildings, set in the very heart of Freo. Reimagined and renovated in 2019 to the highest of standards whilst retaining its original character.

During these extreme and uncertain times, Warder’s Cottage is able to provide a safe home to those affected by travel disruptions. We want to do our bit to help too, so we have drastically reduced our rates for the coming months – enquire within.

Long term bookings avail.

“Warder’s Cottage” is one in a group of six linked cottages known as ‘Warders 3’. It is one of Fremantle’s oldest, most instantly recognised and iconic of buildings, set in the very heart of Freo.

Originally built in 1858 to house the Fremantle Prison Warders and their families, 165 years later the cottages were taken over by the WA Heritage Council and restored back to their original condition, all except for a few modern improvements such as electricity and plumbing.

Each cottage has since been sold to private owners who have added their own panache. None so much as this one which has had no expense spared in parts and in other parts reflects its owners quirky style. You will not be disappointed.

Incidentally, if you’re an AC/DC or Bon Scott fan you’ll be interested to know that Bon was a regular visitor to this cottage when he was a local Freo boy – more on that story in our historical notes inside the cottage.

Enter through the front gate onto the shady verandah, through the front door directly into the warm living room. The funky and stylish kitchen overlooks the front and has all mod cons including a built in dishwasher, microwave & Nespresso coffee maker.

There is a small inside dining room for 4 overlooking the rear deck and surprisingly large and private back garden. Also downstairs is the spacious laundry bathroom with 2nd shower and loo. You’ll find all new top brand appliances, inc washing machine, dryer and Dyson vacuum.

Upstairs you’ll find the master bedroom to the front, resplendent with its Queen Size 4 poster bed and the most luxurious of en-suite bathrooms, and private doorway to the front upstairs verandah.
The small 2nd bedroom also has a Double 4-poster bed with the upstairs landing area used as a 2nd sitting room and dressing area for either bedroom.

We are already 100% all over our cleaning, however we wish to reassure our guests that in addition to our strict cleaning policy, we are also embracing Airbnb’s 5 step cleaning process:

  • Prepare
  • Clean
  • Sanitise
  • Check
  • Reset

For each and every guest, all bedlinen and towels are fresh, including clean pillow protectors and the mattress protector.

Whilst this is a self catering property, we understand that it’s expensive and time consuming to have to bring your own. In order that you can relax the moment you arrive we provide you with a generous amount of everything you need for a few days completely free of charge.
Included are coffee, tea, sugar, breakfast cereals, milk, shampoo, body wash, washing powder, dishwashing etc etc.

(Free timed 5k run with friends). Our closest parkruns are:

Check-in time is 3pm and check-out is 10am. If you’d like to arrive early or sleep in a little, let us know and we will do what we can. An additional fee may apply.

A one off cleaning fee is included in your booking which ensures that you will arrive to a spotlessly clean place with fresh towels, bed linen and a few provisions. So that we can maintain our high standard even during longer stays, we insist that our cleaner comes once a fortnight if your stay is 2 weeks or more. Usual cleaning fee of $150 will apply.

We’re already fanatical about cleaning, but…
During this Coronavirus pandemic we are taking extra care & diligence with cleaning and following Government guidelines for Accommodation Cleaning. We are taking special care disinfecting high touch areas such as switches, handles, remote controls, and sanitising pillows, cushions etc.

Finally, a note about PARTIES:

This is not the place to book if you intend to have a party or invite others who are not included in the booking. Having your family and friends over for a sundowner is perfectly acceptable, but late nights, loud noise and excessive drinking is not allowed.

Please go outside the building to smoke, or it will cost you $300.

You will have the entire cottage to your self and live like a local. I’ll be available online and in person if necessary.

Henderson St is mostly pedestrianised in the centre of Fremantle. Non market days (Mon – Thu) are the quietest days. Conversely Fri, Sat and Sun are busy days and nights with potential for lots of activity and noise. Be prepared to experience central Freo as it happens.

Guest information is collected via a secure online check-in. We will always ask for a copy of your ID (drivers licence or passport) before you check-in and we may also ask for the security bond to be held by us.

Airbnb does not actually take the security bond themselves.
